Donald Trump Criticizes Parents of Fallen Muslim Soldier After Powerful DNC Speec

Link:Donald Trump Criticizes Parents of Fallen Muslim Soldier - Us Weekly

Khizr Khan

Summary:
-On July 28, 2016, Khizr Khan and his wife Ghazala, the parents of a Muslim United States Army Soldier, took stand at the Democratic National Conversation talking about how Donald Trump wants to banned Muslim immigration to the United States. Khizr Khan and his wife didn't take it well so Khan gave out a speech about how even though their son was Muslim, he stood on fought for America. He also stated that if it was up to Donald Trump [our son] would have never been in America. Two days after, Trump went live on ABC news and was putting down Ghazala questioning why she only stood there and didn't say anything about it too. To wrap it all up he states that he has sacrificed so much for America.

Connection:
-This connects to what we are learning because during Khizr Khan's speech, he was direct towards Trump questioning if Trump had even read the United States Constitution. He offered Trump his book of the Constitution leaning towards the fact that he did not read what the Constitution was made for.

Discussion questions:
1. Do you think Donald Trump has made sacrifices for America?
2. Why do you think Ghazala was silent during the speech her husband gave?
3. Do you think Muslim immigration should be banned to the United States?
4. How would you have approached Donald trump if he, as a candidate running for president, wanted to banned your race form the United States?

  2. I think Ghazala was silent because she wanted to show support and respect for her husband and what he was giving a speech about. Another reason could be cultural, in many muslim cultures it is normal for the man to express his ideas when in public, because men are often listened to a little more, because that is just how the culture has been for so many years. Also I don't think Muslim immigration should be banned because immigration is helpful for the US economy, and it is not right to denny someone freedom just for their race and ethnicity.

    1. I also agree that no one should be denied freedom based on their race because if that was the case then The United States should just be abandoned.

  4. Donald Trump hasn't done any sacrifices for the US thus far. If he believes building a wall and banning races is a sacrifice, it isn't. I think Ghazala was silent because she knew her husband had all the right words to say and did not want to add on because it was all worded perfectly. Banning Muslim immigration wouldn't be fair whatsoever. Sure, there are wars going on in the Middle East and we've had terrorists attacks, but that's from a small percentage of the population. Why should an entire population suffer the consequences that only a select few are responsible for? The banning won't do the US any good, if anything, it'll cause a rift between us and other countries. America is built on freedom and equal rights with no discrimination, and what Trump is trying to achieve will only send us back to what we learned with the immigration unit.

  5. I think she stood silent because she was just there to support her husband while he's giving the speech and making him feel less stressed out.

  6. I believe that Trump is very successful in advertising himself. As he implements comments in his speech which are considered to be offensive remarks towards races it brings him up to a larger scale of publicity. All his talk about what he is going to do is smart in keeping himself close to Hillary. Overall he is a business man and this brings more attention to his company. Even if he loses the race, he makes a large profitable amount of money throughout this whole election process.

  9. I think Donald trump has made exactly zero sacrifices for the country. As we learned in the debate, he doesn't even pay federal taxes. That is the opposite of sacrificing for the country.
