USA TODAY's Editorial Board: Trump is 'unfit for the presidency'

Summary:
The editorial board has never taken sides in the presidential race for over 34 years.  Donald Trump was found by unanimous decision unfit for presidency in the eyes of the editorial board.  They claim he is erratic, ill-equipped to be the commander in chief, traffics in prejudice, has a checkered business career, isn't leveling with the people of America, speaks recklessly, and he is a serial liar.  They agree that the next president does not matter as long as it isn't Trump.

Connection:
This can be connected to the presidency of Herbert Hoover who was a business man who was elected president without ever previously holding an elected office.  His presidency was rated as one of the worst of all time.

Conclusion Question:
Do you think Trump is fit for the presidency why or why not? Also if he is elected president do you think hes term will be better or worse than Herbert Hoover's?

  1. I think that Trump is not a fit candidate for presidency because he is very rude, and the things he wants to change are completely outrageous. I think if Trump is elected president, his term will be much worse than Hoover's. I personally think that Hillary would make a much better president, and I also think that she cares a lot more about our country.

  2. I also think the Trump is not fit for presidency. He is very racist, his ideas are not consistent and he isn't a good image for America to have.

  3. I believe that Mr. Trump is fit for presidency, for he has a strong will to act, he speaks what is on his mind thoroughly and straightforwardly, and most importantly, he is very experienced with money and knows how to handle it. Therefore, Mr. Trump may have more potential to improve our country's economy and get things going efficiently. At this time in America's struggles, it might be wise or more preferable to go with a completely new style of handling things, and Mr. Trump can achieve this. Overall, his ideas and policies can essentially be the "spark" to make America great again

  4. Having Donald Trump in office would be like attaching a giant red button to the US that says "push me", where if it gets pushed, everything blows up. He has shown incredible fluctuation in his words, denying he ever said some things mere hours after saying them, and his inability to be polite to his political peers most of the time, as well as his tendency to interrupt, be brash, and disrespect other countries could lead to damaged relationships with other countries and politicians, which would be disastrous for trading. Trump revolves around only a few major plans, and his lack of political knowledge and sophistication would be his downfall should he become president. Although saying he will be the last president and will start a World War are very extreme and mostly unlikely, America will continue it's slow descent with his presidency.

  5. I disagree with Carlo because Trump has caused a lot of drama between many races. He does have a different way of handling things but it is upsetting more people than pleasing more people. Also he is being unfair to many races which is bad because the U.S. Many of the races such as latinos/muslims and other races could began a war because they don't like the way Trump wants to treat them/is treating them. Also Trump has been very inconsistent with what he says he changes and contradicts himself all the time, America can't have that

    1. I agree with Marlene because the way Trump deals with things are way to aggressive for some. And the way he blames certain races for why America isn't "great" anymore, can be hurtful to more than just that race, but to the votes as well.

  6. Keep in mind that this is an opinion piece and not a news story, so all facts are presented with the bias of the author. The speculation surrounding the "validity" of candidates is quite frankly just news click-bait; I would urge all informed votes to see past this and look at the facts of the matter. Mr. Trump is not unlike other candidates, in that he makes promises to the public that he will find, if elected, are near impossible to carry out. But will Trump be as poor as Hoover? This is difficult to say, as it is doubtful that Trump, with his previous business skill, will truly bankrupt the country and drive us into deep depression as Hoover did. This is not to excuse his egoism, however, which surely will hurt international relations. Overall, Trump (and all presidential candidate's) "public appeal" should be based on one's personal beliefs about the facts of the matter, and not influence by media bias.

  7. Personally, I think that Trump isn't fit to be president. He seems to make very rash decisions which is definitely a bad thing if he becomes president. Not only that but he is extremely racist. He openly expresses his racism which creates a bad image. America has come a long way from days of extreme racism and Donald Trump will only make racism worst.

  8. I believe that anyone who meets the requirement to run for presidency is fit to run. He has been voted by the republican party and is obviously fit to run in their eyes. The republican party argues that he has a strong voice, and is knowledgeable about money. He was also not previously a politician meaning that he would be honest and fair in office. Overall, I believe that he is fit for presidency. People who disagree with this stance can vote against him, as is their right. However, he is fit and capable to run and be president.

  9. I truly believe trump is not fit for president for many many reasons. He prompts violence, he is racist, he has never been in office, he has made vary many bankruptcy's, he has never know life with out money, and in my opinion he is very rude. HE has a large mouth and if he becomes president that will get us killed.

  10. In my opinion I feel that trump does not fit the requirements to become the next president. He has said things that go against many people who make up the United States. Most of which are hurtful and solely based on his own opinion. The statements that he makes are complete on his own "I will" ans "this will" claiming all that he will do that will hurt and separate the United States people. We the people need to realize that lies that he put into the minds of those who support him. He is not fit for presidency.

  11. I believe Trump is unfit to be the president of the United States of America because of many of the ideas he has spread though the public. Trump thinks by stopping immigration he will 'save' america, actually if he does this he will hurt the economy of the US. So by doing this not only will Trump have lied to the public, but hurt the US significantly more. In regards to former president Hebert Hoover, I believe since both men have similar backgrounds, their presidencies could be significantly similar. Actually I think Trump's presidency could be even worse of the US, because not only will Trump's ideas hurt the US, but if his past record proceeds him he will probably end up putting the US in even more debt than ever.

  12. I believe that Trump isn't fit to be the president of the US. To begin with, he is extremely racist towards many groups, including Mexicans, Muslims, etc. He also has many policies discriminating against immigrants (he wants to build a wall...), which will severely harm the lower class. In addition, he is very rude and disrespectful towards all the people he runs against, immaturely attacking and insulting them. If he ends up being elected president, the US will severely suffer.

  13. He is unfit to be president, I feel this way because he is rally racist. If someone is gonna discriminate against a certain group of people they should not be elected as the president of the US, especially when that's one thing that our country doesn't like. It makes no sense that people want to target a whole race of people.

  14. I feel as if he is unfit for the position to be our president. Not only does he discriminate certain races and women, he can't even follow laws to pay taxes, etc. His immature and biased personality does not seem reliable when it comes to discussing with other countries, making big decisions, and running a whole country.

  15. I do not think Trump would be a good president. Trump is not a bad person, he is just a business man. He thinks he can be a good change for America because he knows how to be manipulative and he has many connections from his business. However, I think he will be the worst President in our history because a president should not just be someone who can get China to do our bidding, but someone who can set an example for everyone in the Nation to strive for. The President of the United States represents our liberty, and the American Dream

  16. I do not believe that Trump is fit to be the president of one of the most powerful nations in the world. As Lin says, he is just a business man; however, is the nation in need of a business man to lead their country? Although I do not believe the nation is in need of a business man, I could be wrong as I have not followed the country's situations as close as others.

  18. I do not believe that Donald Trump is fit to be president because he wants to change such much throughout america plus getting immigrants to leave america. I think he's terms will be worse then others

  19. Donald Trump is fit to be the president because of his reasonable immigration policy. The illegal immigrants who exist in this country as of now are stealing the jobs of the poor. That is why Trump is fit for presidency.

  20. Trump is unfit to be a President. Why would we want someone who disrespects women and other cultures to be the leader of our nation? Trump is a business man with many connections just because he's successful in the business world doesn't mean he will be a good President.
