Trump allowing illegal immigrants serving in Military to stay in the U.S

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/sep/7/donald-trump-says-illegal-immigrants-serving-milit/

   Summary:

On Wednesday , When Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump was asked if he would allow illegal immigrants serving in the military to stay in the U.S. he said he would. He said that if you are in the armed forces he sees that as a "very special situation" and he could see himself working with that. He also went on to say that if there is an illegal immigrant planning to join the military he would accept them also but he also said that " we have to be very careful" with vetting them.

Connection:

This connects both with the Temporary workers program of 1951 and the Guest worker program from 2004 . It somewhat connects with the Temporary worker program because it is letting illegal immigrants to work in the or for the U.S. , which is basically letting illegal soldiers to stay in the U.S as long as they are working. Also it connects to the Guest worker program because it is letting illegal immigrants into the U.S. to work.

Discussion:

Do you think this is fair? Should they become citizens before joining the army? Do you think that the illegal immigrants serving in the military are allowed to stay ?

  1. I don't think that its fair that someone would risk their life for a country that doesn't support them. This seems very ironic to me and I think that if you serve in the military you should be rewarded with citizenship. My policy on illegal immigrants is this, if they are helping the US more than bringing it down then they are welcome to stay.

  3. Even though I can understand Trump's reasoning for this, I don't entirely agree with this plan. I believe that he is basically allowing illegal workers to stay who are in the military. This isn't fair to anyone else who has worked hard in America. Also, this could cause a dramatic increase in the amount of applicants to the military. This could be a huge problem because many families would rely on someone getting into the military.

  4. I believe that illegal immigrants who want to serve in the military to protect the U.S deserve there right into america.

  5. I dont think that its fair for a person to serve a country thats not theirs. The point of a military army is to defend and serve their country. Whats the point of being American if Americans arent serving their own country? Why have borders?

  6. I believe this is not fair because the country that they would be risking their lives for doesn't even want them there in the first place. It could also be a way for illegal immigrants to stay in the country and this would cause a very large spike in military funds.

  8. I believe it's justified for an illegal immigrant serving in the military to have the right to stay. One of Obama's proposals for our immigration policy was to focus more on deporting felons and not families and those serving in the military are protecting our country so they have a right to stay. I agree with Obamas proposal and believe that the U.S should prioritize illegal immigrants that are ultimately harming the U.S.

  9. I believe that this is not fair in a way because anyone can just join the military to come to the US. I believe its okay to have immigrants in the military but when they are done, they should be forced to leave. This would defeat the immigration policy if the illegal soliders were just allowed to stay.

  10. I don't think it is fair because not all immigrants are able to join the millitary, some may have some disabilities. Also it defeats the purpose of their american dream because maybe they want to go to a specific school here or be with their family but instead they're just being forced to join the millitary, which makes them feel like they're not even in America.

  11. I think its ridiculous about all the exceptions Donald trump is making. I don't think its ridiculous that exceptions are made, but he makes different promises to different people, and that worries me.

  12. I believe that in a way you should become a citizen once you join the army. Serving the country with your life in my opinion would be a high enough price to pay for something such as citizenship

  13. I think that if they want to fight for this country in order to receive citizenship, then I think that they deserve citizenship here in the US. As for the immigrants want a better life, then I think they should be allowed to become a citizen too if they have no criminal record in Mexico.

  14. I think its great that they would like to fight for our country but i believe that they should become a citizen first so they actually can fight not only for our country but for theirs. but this is also not fair because trump says that he doesn't want immigrants in the US but now he says he will only if they want to fight for our country. it sounds like to me that he wants to use the immigrants.
