-Summary/Reaction to the ArticleThis article details the Women’s March which is scheduled to take place the day after the Trump inauguration.  The idea for the march was started by a Facebook page and has since reached women all over the country who are planning on traveling to DC to join the march and paying for the trip on their own.  More than 100 different groups have pledged to join the march and many key women leaders have also joined.  There is not one single message of the march though many women participating are hoping to bring to light many challenges women might face under the Trump administration.

-US History Connection: In our study of the 19th Amendment, we discussed the actions of Alice Paul and other women suffragists as they protested for the right to vote.  According to this article, this many women have not protested in DC since a protest for the right to vote back in 1913.  The women’s march scheduled for January 21 is hoping to gain national attention by protesting in DC just as women did prior to the 19th Amendment being passed.

-Question(s) for Discussion: Why do you think so many women have pledged to join the march?  Do you think the march will have positive impacts?  Do you think these marchers will be treated the same or different from those women who protested for the right to vote prior to 1920 (hint: think hunger strikes, etc)?

  2. I think that so many women have pledged to join the march because it stands for the challenges women face under Trump's administration. I believe that the march will have a positive impact as it showcases the amount of women who are affected by Trump's administration. I think these marches will be treated the same from the women who protested for the right to vote prior to 1920 because these women are marching for something that they are not given the right of.

  3. I agree with Mavis. Trump has been allegedly assaulting women and b joining this mach, the women are standing up for not only themselves but others who have been mistreated due to their gender. I don't believe this women will be treated to the same extent as women who marched to vote prior to 1920. However, they will most likely continue voicing their views and raising awareness.

  4. So long as no one blocks busy streets or loots stores, these women are acting upon their right to peaceful protest, which shows that they are willing to work for what they believe in. However, I think the protests will not do very much. They will not cause Trump to get impeached, or take back any of the things he says, and he is not proposing a war against women or trying to give unfair rights to men only. His policy on stopping money support being given to women taking pregnancy leave off work is also likely to be passed despite it's wrongness and the protests. I feel like police will be harsher than necessary, based off the trends from recent marches.

  5. Women are protesting/marching because they are standing up for themselves. They want to be treated equal. They are human and deserve rights .

  6. Women are protesting in order to show unity despite the negative comments that are being said against them. The National Women's March was so important because women are around 50% of the population, so if 50% of the people are not happy, then that does not create a positive environment. This march did create positive change because it brought everyone together. These marchers were treated better in a way because even the police did not dress in rioting gear, so they were not assuming violence.

  7. Many woman are protesting because they are standing up for their beliefs and rights. I believe this outbreak was cause mostly because of everyones ideas toward Trump becoming our next president. Trump has made hateful comments about women so now they are trying to get their voices heard. I think it will have a positive impact, as long as it remains peaceful. I think they will be treated the same as the protesting woman of 1920 because they are putting a lot of effort into speaking up for what they believe is right.

  8. I believe that many women have pledged to join the march because they want their voices heard. I think it will have a positive impact because Trump won't know what to do so he will give them what they want. I believe they will be treated the same like in the 1920s because they are doing the same thing they did then and now.

  9. A lot of these women are protesting because they want to stand up for rights that they feel there not getting. I believe this march will have a positive impact because it will obvisouly be known and the government will get stuff for it if they dont do something about it. The government is probly thinking about what to do about it right now. I think this protest will be treated differently because the 1920's and 2017 is completely different and their is different laws and such. So things will be treated and handled differently.

  11. I agree with Mavis because women will face a lot of hardships and difficulties during the time that Trump is our president. The March was a showcase of peaceful protesting that Americans are entitled to do. If such a large number of people are gathering for a single cause, it means that something needs to change. These women joined this march in order to make a difference, and for the sake of a better future. This march will have positive impacts no matter how small because we voiced our opinion of disgust for our new president. It is likely that these women will achieve a similar outcome to what the women in 1920 when they were marching for the right to vote. And with any luck we will have a president that will treat everyone fairly and not discriminate people based of religion, gender, and sexuality.

  12. I believe that a lot of women and people all over the world participated in the march because they know that women deserve to be treated fairly and stand up for themselves. Throughout the election, Trump has made inappropriate and hateful comments about women, even admitting his sexual assault crimes. I believe that the march will have a positive impact, especially considering the fact that millions around the world participated in it. I think the march will be treated more or less the same as other marches prior, but it may be treated differently since so many took part in it and so many are against Trump.

  13. I personally don't understand the purpose of the march. Trump has only been president for a day and people claim it's been horrible under Trump.I understand that women are treated badly but I don't see a result of the protest. Personally I believe people are overreactting due to the media be bias. It is very unruly of people to make this decision as they have not yet been affected by Trumps decisions.

  14. I believe that the women face many hardships and during the time that Trump is president, it will continue. Trump has throughout the election, he has said many hateful things about women. Many of these women are protesting after the day of the inauguration because they believe that they should be treated the same than any other person in the country. I believe the women's march will be a impact on Trumps presidency and will make a difference.

  15. I agree with Jacob. Trump has only been President for only 24 hours. How can they protest that they are treated unfairly, when he hasn't made any big decisions that have affected women in the world.

  16. I think that, for any protest or march, the purpose is to create awareness of the problem they are protesting about. I think they protest for what we've seen so far about our president and how he treats women and how women are treated in general. Again, it's only a protest to bring awareness of ideas, but nothing can truly and legally take place unless it goes through the president and congress. Through this, I can see why some may believe its ineffective. But the protest applies pressure for government to take action.

  17. I believe that women are doing the right thing and expressing that their voices are not being heard. It shows a lot that women and is very significant that what they are doing will impact the presidency for the next 4 years or more depending on renewal of presidency. It shows how much trumps election of president effects women and their rights they believe they are not being able to practice being that this march was the day after the inauguration.

  18. I believe that many women want to join this march because they want to make sure that their worries are being voiced and not ignored. Women are afraid that Trump's presidency will affect their rights and their future. They want to peacefully protest against the president because they have seen how he talks about women in a disrespectful manner. I believe that the Woman's March will have an impact on Trump's presidency. The goal of this protest is to make a difference, and I believe it will.

  20. I think so many women have pledged to join the march because it's something they feel very strongly about. The march will bring a positive impact because so many people joined it to have their voices heard. I think the women will be treated the same because not that many people are showing that they care.

  21. I think so many people joined because they believe in equality. Trump's presidency has already been a scary thing, in the mere 3 days since his inauguration, and the Women's March is a safe way for people to express their views.

  22. I think a lot of people joined because they want to stand up for what they believe in and with a lot of people doing it, others will notice. They also want to make sure they are being noticed and there voices are being heard and also want to make a difference in this world. Also with trump president now, a lot of people are upset and want to get people to stand with them for what they believe.

  23. I believe so many people have joined because it's something they feel strongly about. The Women's March like hunger strikes are supposed to bring awareness to the prejudices against certain genders. I think that women have the right to be involved in the March especially since it was a peaceful protest to get their voices heard.

  24. I believe that so many women have joined the march because they want their concerns to be heard and for something to be changed in their favor. I think that they will definitely not be jailed like the women who protested in the 1920s.

  25. I believe that so many women have joined the march because they want their voices to be heard. The women have the right to stand up for what they believe and show others that they shouldn't be treated unequally just because they are women. The protest being peaceful also shows how the women just want to make a difference and they aren't looking for trouble.

  26. I think that the reason to why so many women have joined the march is because they want to spread their opinion in a bigger way, rather than a few everywhere they can all join and unite in one location. I also think there was many people that have joined is because they are minors and they are unable to vote so this is their way of expressing their opinion. I think that this will make a positive impact because this action shows how dedicated these people are, how they are willing to verbally express how they feel. Also the amount of people that attended the march shows that there is not only a few amount of people who think that something should change.

  27. I think so many women participated in the march in order to show that we will be united and work together during this time, and we won't be divided. I think it will have positive impacts because so many people decided to participate and prove their solidarity with causes that are threatened by the new presidential administration. I think these women will be treated the same as activists in the 1920s because we are still fighting for our rights and people will assuredly still be angry about it.

  28. I believe that all of these women want their rights to be heard. These females have the power to go out and protest for what Trump and Trump supporters are in the will of doing. I believe in these women and with all that courage i know us females can do it. I honestly hope that these rights get accepted, and relating to the 1920's

  29. I believe the march will give the woman a time to be heard, but not really change a lot. It shows unity durning this time and that we wont give up. I beleive that the women will not be treated the same as the 1920s because its a toatally different time

  30. i believe that the march was a bigger than expected motivator. No one expected the march to be worldwide, but it showed people that becoming united can make a difference. these marches will be treated differently because it is now know to everyone how much bigger the idea of women's rights really are.

  31. As woman I believe this march sent a huge message out there, that we in fact do matter to the community. Overall I think it did bring a positive impact since it brought, not only woman but everyone together to become united and make and impact.

  32. I think so many women marched to show that no matter what they will be united and they will be heard. The marches had a positive impact because it showed that will not stand what may become of the government and they will fight it.

  33. I believe that these women's want their voice to be heard. Trying to show that they do matter. It made a positive impact because how they all got together and were protesting for there rights.

  34. I think these women wanted to march because they want to be heard in their communities. They feel like they are not a part of their group, so they want to try and change that by marching.I don't know if this will change but it is worth a try.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think these women wanted to march because they wanted to stand up for the rights they felt were right for women. Also because they want to be heard more in communities near them.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think they marched to express their rights toward trump and as for how if it's a positive or a negative things I'd say it's positive although I don't think it will the same effect as woman who protested back on 1920 when women back than had to try harder since back in those times women didn't have the right to vote at all.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think they marched to express their rights and what their value is in this country and to show they are important. I think this would not have a big effect because weather we like it or not trump is cold hearted he is in the presidency and he will do what he wants weather we want it or not.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think many women pledged to march because they needed to fight for their rights. Yes, I believe that the march will have an impact because it was shown all over the world and many people got their voices heard. I don't think women will be treated the same because its not the 1950's and women have a bigger role.
