New Lego set will feature female NASA pioneers

Summary:

Five new Lego characters will be female scientists and astronauts. They are trying to celebrate the women who were the subject of the movie “Hidden Figures”, and the Lego line was made with the help of NASA. This focus is on those women who helped change space exploration. Maia Weinstock is the person who came up with it. she created these figures to consider girls into careers of science and technology.

Connection:

This connects to history because women back then only worked in certain fields.

Do you think  toys like this would help?

What are some other ways that would inspire females to enter these fields?

  1. I think in creating toys like this will create a starting point to further promote female positions as being in high rank like men. I don't know if it will completely be the answer but it's certainly helping. It's nice to see that a women herself, stood out to take the time and bring this awareness.

  2. These toys would help kids understand the important role women play in society. They will grow up understanding that a girl's potential in life is equivalent to that of a boy's. This would in turn be a method that would inspire females to enter fields pertaining to science and technology.

  3. Toys like this probably don't have much of an impact as a whole because as a society we have progressed past a strong nominative stereotype in the field of profession. However, this is a really cool nod to the women who worked to put people in space.

  4. i think creating these toys will help and will be seen as a beginning. I think they should tell more stories about women who are working these types of fields so that they could inspire other women who are wanting to join but are afraid to try.

  5. I don't think these toys will impact women's choices to go into science fields. it is relative and depends on the women's passions and wants and where they want to work in adulthood.

  6. I think this will help children understand that women can take on any job offered to a man. I don't think it will influence women to join this field because it has to be something they are passionate about.

  7. These toys might not encourage girls to go into the science's field. But I don't think that it will encourage girls to go into this field of major. Other ways to encourage women to go into this field is starting at school. School these days do not encourage girls to like science.

  8. I think toys like this will help show young girls that they can do any job they want, even in fields that are mainly taken up by men. However, I do not think it will make a lasting difference for girls when they are choosing a career. While representation is important, I think if we wanted girls to feel like they could work in science we should promote that at school when they have grown out of toys like these.

  9. yes, I think this will inspire many kids to push themselves to achieve any goals despite gender roles, but I also agree with Bridget on the fact that these girls will soon out grow toys like these and should be promoted more in different places.

  10. These toys will help teach young kids about gender equality, but this needs to be implemented throughout their lives especially by family members and schools.

  11. I feel like these toys will help girls particularly in gain confidence that whatever they out their mind to they can accomplish. And it can be whatever they want it to be. And hopefully teach kids that girls can as much as any other person can
