Russell Westbrook had his 31st triple-double in a win against the San Antonio Spurs. With Russell Westbrook having the second most recorded triple-doubles in an NBA season, fans are starting to see him as a perfect match for the MVP title. While reporters poke holes in his shooting percentages and team record saying that numbers can't save him; people can't deny the astonishing effort he puts into games and carries his team even after the loss of all star, Kevin Durant. With James Harden and Kawhi Leonard being other candidates for the title, Oklahoma City Thunder fans only hope that Westbrook continues to put all effort on the court and carry his team through the upcoming playoffs.

Connections: This can connect to Lebron James breaking Grant Hill's record of 29 triple doubles in a single season by getting 36 triple doubles.

1. Do you believe that in order for a player to receive the MVP title, the player's team must be good also?
2. Do you think Russel Westbrook will receive the MVP title, if not then who should?
3. Do you think Russel Westbrook will surpass Roberton's triple double record with a total of 41 with 16 games remaining in the season?

  1. I think that the team should also be good for a person to win MVP because being good on one team doesn't really mean that you you are good to the standard of the best teams out there. I think he will receive the MVP title because he still is a good player and if he is the best out of his team he deserves some recognition of his hard work.

  2. I think the team does not have to be good for a person to win the MVP, because even if a team is underrated, a singular player could still have the skill, determination, and good sportsmanship.

  3. I believe that t he team does not have to be good in order for the player to receive the MVP. Even though the team may not be as good as the others, he is still playing at the same level of completion as the good teams are.

  4. No, because one man cant win the whole game by his self. I think james harden could also win, But i do believe westbrook will break the record.

  5. No not really because you cannot make the team as good as you, that is their own choice.

  8. Honestly not sure what this has to do with history but to put my two cents in: I'm not a huge Westbrook fan. The way he carries himself off the court (at least in interviews) doesn't reflect MVP material character. He often uses intense profanities or is simply rude to reporters, both of which don't reflect the NBA very well. Furthermore, players like Kawaii Lenord, Steph Curry, John Wall, and more have done incredible charity work in their communities. I think the MVP should be an MVP on and off the court, and for these reasons Russell Westbrook is not the right candidate.

  9. I believe that he is good on the court. It is not enough to be worthy of a MVP that could be honored to him. He could use less profanity on the courts and if this happens the media will give him more credit. Also, the MVP should be someone who is good on the inside and is good on the court.

  10. I believe that Westbrook is one of the best point guards in the NBA as of right now. I think the MVP title should be brought up upon kyrie irving or westbrook. Yes I do believe in order to win the MVP award your team has to be doing well, also you have to be the leading scorer on your team and getting your teammates involved in the game.

  12. I believe that the MVP award is given to an individual that is really good, someone that has an impact on their team. I don't think that it should be given to those whose team record is good. I believe the NBA title should be given to the best team, MVP is for the best player no matter how good his team is. I know that Westbrook will break the record, the man is an athletic monster.
